Jersey triathlete Dan Halksworth says he considered quitting the sport earlier this month.

The 29-year-old professional Ironman racer won Sunday's Jersey triathlon just three weeks after winning Island Games gold on home soil.

"I nearly retired this week," Halksworth told BBC Radio Jersey.

"I had a bit of a struggle in the last couple of weeks with things and I haven't really done much in the past couple of weeks."

Halksworth, who competed at last summer's Commonwealth Games for Jersey, was over 10 minutes ahead of his nearest rival in Sunday's race.

"That's the first time I've really had a smile on my face in the last couple of weeks, so I'm really looking forward to the future now," he added.

"I'll be back next year, I've got at least one more year left in me now."

Jersey's Jo Gorrod won the women's event in 2:17:46, just under two minutes ahead of second-placed Sam Lee.
