US-based Welsh golfer Becky Morgan shot a three under par 69 first round to trail leader France's Sophie Giquel-Bettan by three shots at the Ladies European Masters.

Morgan, 40, carded four birdies in her opening round at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.

But she was frustrated after three putting the 12th.

"I think I only missed two greens today and my one bogey was that pretty bad three putt," she said.

"But overall it was pretty consistent and good."

Playing in only her second Ladies European Tour event of the season, Morgan hopes her performance in the event can transform her year.

"This is only my second LET [Ladies European Tour] event, the first was in Australia so that doesn't really count," she said.

"I live in America, but I've been struggling over there in the States so I kind of hope this turns my season around."

As for the Solheim Cup hopeful Amy Boulden, 22, a round of level par sees her very much in the mix as she looks to impress Captain Carin Koch.

Welsh golfer Boulden opened her round with birdies on the two opening holes, but gave them back on the third and fifth holes as she let a couple of shots slip away.

Further pick ups were on the ninth and 10th, but consistency cost her on the 11th and 12th as back to back bogies brought her back to level par.

"Level is probably the worst I could have shot today so it's good that I've still got three days to make it up," she said.

"Every hole is a birdie chance so hopefully I'll hole some putts tomorrow [Friday].

"I've got a good record around here, it's suits my game, but I missed the fairways too much today."

Other Welsh golfers in action included Sahra Hassan who carded a six over par 78, while Becky Brewerton's form continued to struggle recording an eight over par 80.
