World Triathlon Leeds: I felt rubbish - Wales' Stanford

Non Stanford has offered no excuses after finishing ninth in the Leeds leg of the World Series triathlon.

World champion Gwen Jorgensen won a race in which Britain's Vicky Holland and Jodie Stimpson were third and fourth respectively.

Stanford, 27, finished over two minutes behind Jorgensen and was disappointed with her performance in her adopted home city.

"I just felt absolutely rubbish out there," she said.

"The first 10 minutes on the bike I really, really struggled.

"I don't like to moan about it, when you're doing it on your own it's really tough.

"Maybe it's something we need to think about a bit more and work on as a team.

"The other girls were absolutely phenomenal and really impressive."

The latest World Series event came at the end of a week in which Stanford was confirmed in Team GB's triathlon team for Rio 2016.

Swansea-born Stanford had achieved qualification for Rio in September 2016 and will be joined in Rio by Holland and fellow Welsh triathlete Helen Jenkins.
