Promoter Hearn doubts Cleverly v Braehmer rematch will happen despite clause
Promoter Eddie Hearn has cast doubt on the prospect of a rematch between Nathan Cleverly and Juergen Braehmer.
Welshman Cleverly captured the WBA 'regular' light-heavyweight title on Saturday after beating the German.
Braehmer has a rematch clause and the pair would again fight in Germany should that clause be invoked.
"Potentially we can look forward to the rematch, but I am not sure Braehmer will want that fight," Hearn told BBC Radio Wales.
He continued: "I know he has damaged his elbow, but Nathan was breaking his heart in there and you could see in Braehmer's eyes at the end, he had just had enough.
"Nathan was a pest and it was going to get worse for Braehmer. When he looks back, he's 37-years of age, maybe he won't want the rematch."
Hearn thinks Cleverly will be too strong for Braehmer if they do fight again.
"If there is a rematch, I think it will be an even easier night's work for Nathan."Injury, no injury, it doesn't matter.
"Nathan has fought in Chicago and in Germany as the away fighter. He doesn't have a problem going on the road.
"He was fighting for his career against Braehmer and he forced him to quit on his stall."
Cleverly says he is relaxed about a rematch.
"There is a clause in the contract, so probably so, a rematch," he said.
"Braehmer was good enough to give me the fight and a shot at the title, so I am obliged to give him an opportunity and I am happy to do so.
"We were treated well over here in Germany and if we have to come back, we will do so happily."
