Ash Cloud Hits UK Flights 火山灰导致英国航班暂时停运

Travellers have been made to wait until the cloud clears

A cloud of volcanic ash 火山灰 in the air over Great Britain has stopped flights leaving or entering UK airspace 英国领空.

Flights have been instructed not to fly in or out of the UK until 1800 BST 英国夏令时 due to fears that the ash could cause engine damage 发动机损坏 to planes.

The embargo 禁运令 was brought in after experts warned 告诫 that the tiny particles 微粒 of rock, glass and sand contained in the ash cloud would be sufficient to jam 堵塞 aircraft engines.

The flight restrictions 限制 have already caused massive disruption 极大的不便 to passengers' travel plans, with thousands of people affected.

Passengers hoping to fly have been advised to contact their carriers 航空公司 to find out the latest news about the travel situation.

The cloud, which is the result of a volcanic eruption 火山爆发 in Iceland, is also affecting travel in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

This is the second time the volcano has erupted in a month.
